How to make rock candy

Materials:

1 cup water in saucepan
2 cups white sugar
Wooden Spoon
Thick glass jar
Pencil or stick
String and a heavy button, a washer, or large paper clip

1. Bring the water to boiling point, then lower the heat and stir in some sugar. Add more sugar and stir until no more will dissolve. (can add food coloring and flavoring extract)
2. Let the liquid cool a little, then pour it into a jar.
3. Tie one end of the string to the pencil and the other to the button, washer, or paper clip.
4. Balance the pencil on the jar. The button, washer, or paper clip will keep the string hanging straight down in the liquid. Leave the jar in a warm place.

As the liquid cools, the sugar will crystallize on the string and the button, washer, or paper clip. In a few days, you can pull out the candy and eat it.

Note: Food coloring and flavoring extract may be added by stirring in the mixture after step 1.
